The February Round Up!

Month two is over and  the blog has gone from strength to strength. There’s no doubt why – the stories in the Master’s Community told in the “Meet the Masters” interviews are simply a cracking read. We had lots of great interviews in February!

Meet the Masters: Kelly Friel

Kelly has been to Regionals twice but 2017 could be her busiest year yet as she starts a new career alongside running a box and fitting in a few competitions along the way!

Listen to your elders! They have the keys to effective recovery.

Over the last few months we interviewed a selection of the UK’s top Masters. They proved that the old adage of “Listen to your elders!” was wise advice.

The definition of CrossFit includes the following explanation, “We scale load and intensity; we don’t change the program. The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree, not kind.”
The same principle is true for a Master’s recovery protocol. No new or different programme is needed compared to the younger box members but we do need to scale load and intensity; but in the opposite direction. We need to do more warming up and cooling down, spend more time on our mobility and eat more of the good stuff  (and less of the bad).

Here’s what they said when we asked, “What’s the key to effective recovery for you?”

Meet the Masters: Rhian Pearson

Rhi is an inspirational Master whose journey you can follow on Instagram as she prepares to smash her fitness goals in 2017. She’ll be throwing down with the youngsters at Rainhill in May with a smile on her face!

Meet the Masters: Raymond Orr

Raymond made his mark in 2016. In his first year as a CrossFitter, he came 1st in Europe in Open WoD 16.5 and conquered all opposition to win the Final of Scale the Heights. Look out for him in 2017!

Meet the Masters: Michael Johnson

Consistently ranking as the best male UK Master in his age category in the Open for the last three years; Michael has more than proved that he is a formidable CrossFitter. His long term goal is to reach the Games in 2019… don’t bet against a man who enjoys the quiet humility of hard work.
