David is a box owner, a coach and an athlete who loves a sufferfest. He made the Age Group Online Qualifers (35-39) and came 1st in the UK in the Team Series Mixed Pairs (35-39); but nothing makes him prouder than his members smashing their goals.
How long have you been doing CrossFit and where do you train?
I have been CrossFitting since 2009 – I own and train at CF Cirencester
What keeps you coming back for more?
I love the benefits of GPP, I can train all week and then do some kind of mega event at the weekend. The challenge of programming for the box is wonderful, it’s like trying to complete a massive puzzle, that is always evolving.
What achievements are you most proud of?
As an athlete, this years Open results, and the Team Series results, with my partner Katie Holder.
As a coach: Featuring on CrossFit HQ Instagram & Website for #BeLikeMike. Over 600,000 views of Mike Reeks completing a 30″ box jump, he is 72 years old. We have lots of similar stories at CFC, members completing outstanding achievements, beyond the norm.
What are your strengths?
I really enjoy the Clean, Deadlifts, any kind of WOD that really grinds you down, sufferfests!
What are your weaknesses?
My snatch numbers are not good enough yet, in comparison to my other lifts, but I am working hard on that.
What are your goals for 2017?
I set a goal of completing my 10th Tough Mudder, the Spartan Race Trifecta, The Velo Birmingham & qualifying for Strength in depth with CrossFit Cirencester.
Who does your programming?
I program for myself.
Can we find you on social media? Who do you follow on social media that you’d recommend to others?
What supplements do you swear by?
GLC2000 has been a career saving product. About 3 years ago my knees were so bad I could only run about 400m, last year I ran 100k in an Ultra Marathon. Blonyx Creatine & HMB, Beta-Alanine & HMB Sport are so important to my daily supplementation. Icon D3 & Omega 3 too.
What’s always in your kitbag?
Goat Tape, Compex, Legacy lifters & RockTape knee sleeves
What advice would you give to a Master just starting out in CrossFit?
Enjoy the process, don’t rush to lift heavy. Build a foundation and use your fitness for fun.
What’s the key to effective recovery for you?
I have a credit, debit points system, to prevent overtraining.
If you don’t climb the mountains, you can’t see the view
Thanks for a great interview, David!
